Tip of the Week:

A board seat can give your career an adrenaliine shot.  It standfs out on your resume, and it gives you a chance to rub shoulders with heavy hitters.  Where do you sing up?  Well, first there's that little matter of getting appointed.  Tips:

- Start small.  Volunteer for the board of a local nonprofit.  They are easier to get on and serve as valuable training.

- Schmooze the lawyers.  Attorneys deal with lots of companies and often know when there are board openings.

- Don't come across as desparate.  Casually let it be known you're available.

- The best way to get on a board is if you're already on one.
